What's New in SAP Subscription Billing (Q1 2025)

Greetings, and welcome to our first blog post of the year featuring the new features we've released over Q1 2025 for SAP Subscription Billing. We've been hard at work implementing improvements based on your feedback, and we're thrilled to share these updates with you. Let's dive in!

Copy Rate Plan with Pricing Schemes to Multiple Markets
To kickstart the array of enhancements, we've made it easier to create rate plans for multiple markets. Now, you can copy an existing rate plan with pricing schemes to one or multiple markets for a product. You do this in the product detail page in the Manage Products app. This feature allows you to streamline your processes and create uniformity across your markets.

Intuitive Minimum Value Selection with Suitable Quantity Operator
To make pricing more flexible, users can now pick either the minimum or the maximum value while using the suitable quantity operator. This provides a straightforward way to select the lower value of two quantities, making it easier to define prices for various business scenarios.

Integration with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
We continue to enhance interoperability through tighter integration with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition. The Billing Data Analytics and Subscription Analytics apps have been integrated into the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition launchpad and are specifically designed for the Subscription Specialist role. The apps help you understand and optimize the performance of your subscription business.

Consistent Splitting of Bills after Subscription Header Changes
We've upgraded our logic to better reflect changes made to certain subscription header properties in open bills. As a result, you can now easily ensure the consistency of billing data after adjustments are made to subscriptions. Note that these changes will immediately be reflected in open bills while closed bills will remain unaffected. If you're already running SAP Subscription Billing, you can activate this feature in the Manage Business Configuration app under Advance Activation of Features.

Auto-lock Subscription Prices
We understand the importance of safeguarding your subscription prices against list price changes. So, we've implemented the option to lock the subscription prices in line with the list prices for newly created subscriptions. These locked prices will remain unchanged even if the list price is adjusted in the Manage Lookup Table Data app.
This auto-lock option can be configured by assigning overridable fields to rate plan templates. Additionally, you can still update auto-locked prices to current list prices using the Update Prices option in the Manage Subscriptions app.

Support of Sales Commissions with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
To facilitate better financial operations, we now support the internal and external settlement of sales commissions for subscriptions as part of the Subscription Management with Sales Billing process (scope item 57Z). This feature automatically generates settlement documents based on billing data in SAP Subscription Billing, making it easier to manage the settlement of subscription sales.

That wraps up the fantastic new major updates we've brought to SAP Subscription Billing in Q1 2025! For further details on all features, visit the SAP Subscription Billing "What's New" page on SAP Help.
Remember to leave feedback, ask questions in the comment section, or use the tag SAP Subscription Billing in the Q&A section. Don’t forget to follow the tag SAP Subscription Billing to make sure you never miss any of our updates.
Until next time, stay tuned and take care!

Today's Puzzle: Why is SAP not in the Gartner 2025 FCCS Magic Quadrant?

KatharinaR_1-1744372988932.pngThe Gartner Magic Quadrant for Financial Close and Consolidation (FCCS) was released in March 25, 2025, and, as in years’ past, SAP is not included.

“But surely SAP has a solution for FCCS? Why is SAP not participating?”

Simply put, SAP is not included because SAP is an ERP Suite solution provider, and not a standalone FCCS solution.

Typically, Gartner’s FCCS evaluates solutions that offer a wider range of cloud-based capabilities like financial close management, consolidation, and financial reporting.

SAP customers can benefit from SAP solutions optimized for their data, processes, and landscape:

  • Cloud ERP core capabilities for record to report address the processing steps required to create an entity-level financial report. Data is validated at various points in the process and reconciled by design, with full traceability from the financial report to the underlying financial transaction – and even back to the logistical source – like a sales or purchase order.

This core functionality can be extended if your company needs to manage additional requirements related to multiple geographies, systems, or complex company structures:

  •  is an orchestration hub that coordinates and automates closing tasks in a single-system or multi-system environment. It provides prescriptive automation content for the required closing steps in SAP S/4HANA Cloud – but companies can extend these steps to cover manual tasks or tasks performed in different systems. Additional automation to cover specific media or systems gaps, or very complex workflow, can be added with a no-code / low-code approach using SAP BTP’s Process Automation capabilities.
  •  automates the financial consolidation routines required to collect data from all of the entities in the group, manages complex consolidation tasks (currency translations, matrix hierarchies, intercompany eliminations, investment consolidations, etc) and generates financial reports – now with (new!) AI-support for summarization and financial analysis

There are several advantage to using these SAP solutions to meet your FCCS requirements. You can

  • avoid extra reconciliation tasks and risks and delays associated with ETL processes,
  • enforce data quality checks and validations of balances on various financial positions and other managerial dimensions such as cost object, profit center or segment,
  • identify and correct issues at the source – since you’re always working in one environment, you do not have to re-load data when there are adjustments
  • perform tasks before the close – tasks like goods and invoice receipt reconciliation or intercompany can be done on a continuous basis during the period, taking the pressure off the period-end close
  • drill-through auditability for greater visibility and trust – from the highest level consolidated group revenue number, you can drill back to an individual sales order in a specific country,
  • share a user experience across accounting transaction processing, entity close, and group reporting – with the re-use of configurations.

While the vast majority of SAP customers are using these SAP solutions in the SAP Business Suite context, there are some companies that have deployed a “sidecar” approach with AFC and Group Reporting in a cloud system - separate from their financial accounting. This is enabled by SAP Group Reporting’s data loading capabilities ( ) which allow data to be loaded in a controlled way for entities with accounting data in a separate system.

This setup offers some advantages for specific customer segments, such as immediate access to innovations and SAP’s AI capabilities and roadmap (while their accounting system may be on premise and subject to longer upgrade cycles). However, the advantages that SAP Business Suite integrated-stack customers report in terms of “continuous accounting” and “immediate insight of group-level performance during the period” are not achievable.

Replacement of Core Tool functionalities by functionalities in Cockpit Fiori apps as of SAP CC 2025

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Dear SAP BRIM Community, as of the next major release of SAP Convergent Charging, which will be released in Q4 2025, some Core Tool functionalities will be gradually replaced by functionalities available in Cockpit Fiori apps.

The functionalities provided in Fiori apps will cover 100% of the documented scope for the Core Tool. The replacement strategy consists in replacing functionalities, user role by user role. For each user role, a dedicated SAP Note will be published detailing the corresponding functionalities available in the Cockpit.

As an example, the first user role being considered is the User Administrator role, for which the functionalities will not be available in the Core Tool any longer. The User Administrator role will then use the dedicated Fiori apps available in the Cockpit:

  • Manage User Accounts
  • Manage Permissions

There are multiple reasons why we are making this critical step:

Better User Experience

With Fiori apps available in the Cockpit, we intend to enhance the user experience that is aligned with SAP’s strategy and provides consistency across SAP products, and in SAP Billing and Revenue Innovation Management in particular.

AI-assisted Functionalities

AI-assisted functionalities, which will be added over time to SAP Convergent Charging in private cloud, will only be available through the Cockpit and its Fiori apps and won’t be available in the Core Tool.

For detailed information on the planned innovations, please visit SAP Road Map Explorer at roadmaps.sap.com.

Easier Deployment

At the end of the day, users won’t have to install Core Tool on their desktop/laptop but will only use their Web browser to interact with SAP Convergent Charging.

If you have any feedback, please leave a note on this blog page.
